Monday Mornings… Being your own Boss

by Marsha Glover

First thing Monday morning I am going to pack my fears away… Got no cause to look back I am looking for me a better day… These lines are from a Toni Braxton song “Let it Flow” where she sings about a relationship that ended and starting new Monday Morning.  The lyrics of the song actually said tears not fears as I wrote.  I wrote fears because I am referring to my job that i just recently ended; the fear of starting over on my own. I have been working for Organizations since I was 16. I probably would have started earlier but in New York at the time I did not get a work permit (requirement) or a job until I was 16. Being your own Boss seems attractive at first… No more early Monday’s, No more waking up early, No more morning alarms, No more list and No more stress… This however is not the case if you plan to actual have an active business…

Being your own Boss actually requires more self discipline than operating under some one else. I learned this the first time I attempted to stay home after my son was born.  I stopped practicing as an RN at a very prestigious hospital and decided I was going to sell Real Estate which I thought would allow the opportunity to make my own schedule… I soon realize that doing so meant that I needed to have enough self discipline to get up and out. I honestly was not getting anything done… especially working from home made it appear as I was more available so I now could not use the excuse that I couldn’t do car pool because I have to work during those hours… I quickly realized that for me to get anything done I would have to get a job outside the house.  I even tried utilizing the office at my brokerage firm, However it was still the impression that I can break away at my leisure… When the opportunity was presented to work in an industry that I was passionate about I quickly accepted because it also meant suitable hours to still be home to assist with after school activities… I worked for the company for three years and now here I am attempting once again to be my own Boss. This time around I plan to work Monday mornings, make a list, set my alarm to get up early and accept the fact that it will be stressful at first. However I plan to have fun and do it my way!

This is where I have to acknowledge my sponsor… my hubby 🙂 It really helps when you have a second income as a means of support when you decide to follow your dream. Yesterday being Father’s Day I had to thank my husband for always having my back… He has been one of my and the children’s biggest supporters of us living our dreams.

I first would like to commend you on taking that risk of leaving your job and following your heart. I am struggling with leaving my job that makes me so miserable but I am really afraid too. I randomly stumbled upon your Isra gram page and decided to read your blog. This post really gave me a little push because if you were able to do it with a family that you need to support, I can take that risk as well while I am single and don’t have any children. I recently wrote about taking this big risk on my blog at Deijhasviews.com I would like for you to take a look at my site and if you have any suggestions or tips I would be more than happy to hear them. Thank you

Thank you for reading and your comments. The hardest part of doing anything is getting started because we sometimes think too much about the risk aspect. I checked your blog out and you are doing a great job!…I will continue to check it out…

Thank you Deeloris… I so appreciate the encouragement via your feedback… I can’t lie and say I wasn’t nervous… still a little… but someone once said, even some of the biggest and most successful athletes get nervous before each game so its normal to get nervous when something big is on the horizon… Their lips to God!

This post was eye opening for me and allowed for me to be honest with myself. I share the same reasoning and thought process when I thought about becoming an entrepreneur. It does take strong self discipline to get up and still work when you have flexibility. I will definitely continue to follow your blog. #fellowmomwifedaughterfriendandbusinessowner

Thank you for this. You are the inspiration that some of us need. I was up contemplating and debating within myself and scrolling down ig not really paying attention and I landed on your post and I went a little farther. I needed to read this. They say the answers are right there in front of you all you have to do is open your eyes. Thank you Marsha

No Thank you Candy! I love getting feedback especially positive ones:) I so agree with your statement that the answers are right in front of you… The older I get the more I see those answers in front of me… I don’t know if its because I use to move so fast when I was younger as if I was running. Now that I am older I walk more and I can see more and learn more… Keeping on pushing farther and its ok if you walk.
